A works council is a representative body in a company that is elected by the employees and serves to represent the interests of the employees and protect their rights.
The works council has certain co-determination and participation rights in accordance with the legal provisions of a country, typically in areas such as working conditions, working hours, remuneration, health and safety, recruitment and dismissal of employees and social benefits.
The members of the works council are elected by the company's employees and act as a link between the workforce and the company management. They regularly take part in meetings where important decisions are discussed and represent the interests of the employees vis-à-vis the employer.
