**Job Overview:**
Wildlife and Animal Caretakers are responsible for providing exceptional care to a wide variety of native Texas and exotic birds, mammals, reptiles, as well as farmed and companion animals. Caretakers can expect to work 40-50 hours per week, with shifts changing based on the season. Duties include day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Daily tasks involve animal care routines, health assessments, habitat maintenance, and record-keeping.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities:**
- Perform caretaking duties at the Kendalia sanctuary while upholding high care standards.
- Ensure the well-being of all animals; immediately report any issues to veterinary personnel or the hospital manager.
- Feed animals according to specific dietary plans and schedules.
- Maintain cleanliness of enclosures at all times.
- Conduct regular health monitoring of animals; communicate findings to veterinary staff.
- Administer medications following prescribed treatment regimens.
- Assist with facility maintenance tasks such as landscaping, repairs, and animal transportation.
- Follow procedures for admitting new animals; complete relevant documentation promptly.
- Represent WRR professionally when interacting with visitors; stay informed about WRR policies.
- Instruct volunteers & interns in maintaining high standards of animal care.

**Qualifications:**
1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Zoology or Biology is highly desirable.
2. Prefer two years of full-time experience in animal care with experience handling both native Texas wildlife and domestic species being advantageous.
3. Physical stamina is essential along with the strength to lift heavy objects regularly; candidates must perform physically demanding tasks independently or within a team environment under stressful conditions.
4. Applicants should exhibit a strong work ethic paired with a positive attitude and integrity.
5. Reliability is crucial along with willingness to learn new skills ensuring that all animals receive optimal quality of life within our sanctuary.
6. Meningitis, Tetanus, and rabies pre-exposure vaccinations are mandatory within initial months of employment. Negative TB test is also required.
