Laboratory Supervisor

My client seeks a skilled and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to oversee and manage chemical and battery testing processes in a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will ensure that all laboratory operations comply with internal requirements, OEM standards, and international regulations. This key leadership role requires a proactive individual with strong technical, analytical, and supervisory skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Laboratory Operations Testing & Reporting (50%)

  • Conducted testing for incoming products, manufactured in-process samples, and finished products.
  • Manage third-party laboratory testing and audit finished products for compliance.
  • Analyze and present data in statistical formats for easy review.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting of test results.

2. Compliance (20%)

  • Ensure laboratory operations comply with ISO 17025 standards and other applicable regulations.
  • Identify and report risks, enforcing strict adherence to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards.

3. Customer Service (10%)

  • Foster effective relationships with internal and external customers to deliver high-quality service.
  • Collaborate to identify and resolve issues while maintaining integrity and professionalism.

4. Staff Supervision (10%)

  • Manage a skills matrix to promote employee development and versatility.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and monitor individual and team growth.

5. Equipment and Budgets (10%)

  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is well-maintained and serviced.
  • Contribute to budget planning, monitor expenditures, and explore opportunities to reduce costs.

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a similar field (NQF 6).
  • 3-5 years of laboratory operations experience in a manufacturing environment, including 1-2 years in a supervisory role.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields (NQF 7).
  • 5-7 years of laboratory operations experience (preferably in the chemical industry), with 3-4 years in a supervisory role.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of MSA, SPC, and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Minitab, SAP, Power BI, and Shopware.
  • Knowledge of calibration processes and OEM/international standards (ISO 17025, IATF 16949).
  • Familiarity with battery requirement standards (SANS 2, IEC 60095, EN 50342-01).
