Nursing Department Manager, Cardiovascular OR FT Variable Shift

Position Overview:
The Nurse Department Manager oversees the delivery of nursing services and ensures safe, high-quality patient care within their designated department and across the care continuum. This role integrates nursing standards of practice with service priorities, performance metrics, and the organization's strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  1. 24/7 Management of Patient Care:
    • Ensure nursing services meet or exceed standards for cost, quality, clinical performance, and utilization.
    • Maintain and implement patient care and service standards to align with member and client expectations in a dynamic healthcare environment.
    • Hold staff accountable for delivering top-quality care in compliance with the Nursing Practice Act, TJC standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  2. Strategic Planning & Operations:
    • Collaborate with nursing leadership to develop strategic and business plans that promote integrated services across the continuum of care.
    • Drive continuous improvement by designing systems and processes that enhance patient care quality and operational efficiency.
  3. Resource Management:
    • Develop and monitor departmental budgets to optimize human and material resources.
    • Identify cost-reduction strategies while improving care quality and service delivery.
  4. Staff Management & Development:
    • Determine optimal staffing levels and oversee recruitment, hiring, training, and competency maintenance.
    • Foster professional growth through ongoing staff development initiatives.
  5. Policy & Compliance:
    • Establish and enforce departmental policies and procedures to align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
    • Manage fiscal operations, quality improvement efforts, and adherence to safety standards.
  6. Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Participate in medical center, regional, and national leadership forums and committees.
    • Address and resolve human resource and risk management issues.
    • Promote a culture of safety for patients, employees, and the department by adhering to administrative, legal, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Experience:

  • Clinical Nursing: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical nursing experience.
  • Leadership: At least three (3) years in management, supervisory, or leadership roles.

Education:

  • Academic degree in Nursing (BSN or MSN required).
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • For PICU/NICU (CCS-certified or seeking certification): BSN and National Health/Nursing Administration Certification, or MSN required.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Leadership experience within the organization is acceptable under specific criteria (e.g., charge RN roles, professional committees, completion of RN leadership development programs).
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, TJC standards, and other relevant regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally sensitive service to patients, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a labor/management partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or a related field.
  • National Certification in a nursing specialty.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.

Travel: Up to 5% of the time.
