Facilities Maintenance Technician I

Description of Work

A Facilities Maintenance Technician I, under the general supervision of the Facilities Management Supervisor, performs skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance of facilities. An employee in this class provides repair, alteration, modernization, and preventive maintenance duties, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  1. Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of completion of the General Educational Development test (GED); AND
    Have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time paid work experience in building maintenance or general work.
  2. Have a valid drivers license.

Physical Conditions / Work Location

Physical Activities:

A Facilities Maintenance Technician I must be in good physical condition to perform medium to heavy work activities, including lifting and carrying objects weighing fifty (50) pounds or more, as well as walking, standing, and bending for extended periods of time.

Environmental Conditions:

An employee in this class performs job duties in a variety of work locations, including inside, on top of, or outside of buildings and facilities.

Evaluation Content:

The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including a back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test conducted by an appointed physician before the first day of employment. Employment offers are contingent upon the results of these examinations.

Applicants may also be subject to a post-offer criminal background check depending on the position's nature and assignment. Employment is contingent upon the results of this check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment is considered permanent.

Purpose

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list to fill current and future vacancies in this classification. For each opening, the Department Head selects candidates meeting the required minimum qualifications. The eligible list remains effective for three (3) months unless extended or exhausted.
