Description of Work
A Public Health Technician, under general supervision, performs a variety of confidential program and clerical support activities. The Technician performs screening, testing, and interviews clinic patients regarding confidential medical matters in compliance with state and local policies and procedures. They prepare and file confidential medical records and documents, answer public inquiries requiring thorough knowledge of public health programs and procedures, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
- Possess an Associates degree in childhood development, education, medical, or other related fields; OR,
Be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development Test (GED); AND have a minimum of two (2) years full-time work experience, which includes customer service, clinic care, or experience with children in an early childhood, school, or related setting. - Possess a valid drivers license.
(Note: Certification and training may be required to perform specific program activities.)
Physical Conditions / Work Location
Physical Activities
An employee in this role must be in good physical condition to allow for frequent standing, walking, and lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
Environmental Conditions
The employee may work in various office and clinic settings and be required to travel between locations within the County.

Evaluation Content
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County-appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment is considered permanent.

Applicants are entitled to a review of any determination or action taken regarding their employment application. Inquiries should be directed to the Human Resources Department.
Purpose
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list to fill present and future vacancies in this classification. For each opening, the Department Head selects candidates who meet the required minimum qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless extended or exhausted.
