Software Engineer: Automated Chemistry Technology

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer with a strong chemistry background to join a cutting-edge chemical technology company. The focus of this role is on developing scalable software solutions for chemistry automation technologies, including robotic platforms and AI-driven processes. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering, chemistry, and automation in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application Development:
    • Develop and maintain applications for chemical automation technologies such as DirectInject-LC and self-driving labs.
    • Transition software from development stages to commercial-ready, with a focus on robustness and user-friendliness.
  • Automation Technology Development:
    • Collaborate with hardware and chemistry teams to design and optimize automation technologies for laboratory workflows.
    • Integrate, optimize, and maintain hardware and software modules, including automated synthesis, analytical tools, and robotics.
  • Systems Integration Maintenance:
    • Oversee the integration of software with existing laboratory equipment and ensure smooth operation of automation systems.
  • Technical Communication:
    • Prepare presentations, data visualizations, and collaborate with computer science colleagues to curate large datasets.
    • Support the development of grant proposals and technical manuscripts.
  • Lab Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including handling chemical materials, and maintaining safety records in line with regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience in automation technologies, particularly in a chemistry or laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in Python, C#, C++, and .NET framework.
  • Experience with Linux environments and Windows integration.
  • Familiarity with robotic systems, HPLC/UPLC instruments, and chromatography data systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in user interface design, analytics systems, and software debugging.
  • Familiarity with hardware such as Cartesian robots, robotic arms, and other laboratory automation systems.
