Tax Manager

Our client is looking for a dynamic and collaborative Tax Manager to join their expanding team. This opportunity is perfect for someone who is passionate about public accounting and dedicated to delivering exceptional tax services. As a Tax Manager, you’ll be instrumental in providing tailored tax solutions to clients, maintaining client relationships, guiding junior staff, and managing the financial aspects of engagements.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Offer tailored, solution-driven tax advice to clients.
  • Manage and grow relationships with existing clients while actively developing new ones.
  • Oversee engagement finances, including billing, collections, and budget tracking.
  • Review complex corporate and personal tax returns, including terminal, estate, trust returns, and various other information forms.
  • Research and analyze tax issues for both internal team members and clients.
  • Draft tax memoranda, client communications, and professional opinions on tax matters.
  • Support the development and implementation of tax and estate planning strategies, as well as corporate reorganizations.
  • Liaise with tax authorities on audits and appeals.
  • Stay current on new tax legislation and case law to ensure expert advice.
  • Mentor, train, and support staff accountants in tax-related tasks.
  • Minimum of 4 years specializing in Canadian tax planning, compliance, and returns for corporations, individuals, trusts, and estates.
  • Availability to work on-site in downtown Edmonton, 5 days a week.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in tax and accounting, with at least 3 years focused on tax.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring teams.
  • Completed or actively pursuing the In-Depth Tax Program.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong business sense and proven client relationship-building skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and tax software.
