Your Mission as an Exploration Geophysicist
As an Exploration Geophysicist, your role will be essential in identifying and defining new leads and prospects through seismic data analysis and integration. You will combine seismic inversion with geological data to enable reservoir characterization, assess potential hydrocarbon deposits, and validate exploration targets. You will also monitor and enhance the quality of seismic data interpretation to support critical decision-making throughout the exploration phases.
You will be handling these duties and responsibilities as an Exploration Geophysicist
- Seismic Interpretation
- Data Conditioning: Enhance seismic data by conditioning structural and stratigraphic attributes for improved horizon and fault interpretation.
- Seismic Well Tie (SWT): Conduct SWT, integrating VSP output data and seismic stratigraphy to finalize well tops.
- Horizon and Fault Mapping: Interpret 2D/3D seismic surveys and map key horizons and faults using seismic and structural attribute analysis to refine structural understanding.
- TWT Mapping: Generate time maps based on final horizons and faults using Petrel software, creating robust structural frameworks.
- Velocity Modeling Depth Conversion: Convert seismic data from time to depth domain, testing various velocity models to align with well data and achieve reliable structural settings.
- Seismic Inversion
- Data Review: Assess well logs and seismic data for consistency and interpretability to inform inversion processes.
- Seismic-to-Well Tie Wavelet Extraction: Perform deterministic wavelet extraction from pre-stack seismic data to achieve accurate seismic-well ties.
- Rock Physics Analysis: Create a petro-elastic rock model to analyze geophysical and petrophysical properties.
- Low Frequency Model (LFM) Building: Develop LFM using AI, Vp/Vs ratio, and density, applying it to seismic trace positions within the 3D volume.
- Simultaneous Pre- and Post-Stack Inversion: Utilize Petrel’s AVO inversion to obtain high-resolution acoustic impedance and Vp/Vs, with angle/offset stack data for density analysis.
- Lithology Porosity Prediction: Predict reservoir lithology and porosity, utilizing PDFs and seismic inversion data for accurate resource characterization.
Qualifications and Skills that will allow you to thrive as an Exploration Geophysicist
- Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in advanced seismic interpretation, inversion, and velocity modeling, ideally in an exploration setting.
- Proficiency in Petrel software and AVO analysis, with strong data conditioning and seismic well tie skills.
- Expertise in reservoir characterization, fault mapping, and structural frameworks.
- Deep understanding of rock physics and seismic attributes.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and present findings.
