Mechanical Group Manager

Position Overview:

As the Mechanical Engineering Group Manager, your key focus will be overseeing project development for new initiatives. You'll be responsible for managing the performance and evaluations of all engineers and designers within your team, while providing essential support to Project Managers. The role demands a professional and ethical approach in all aspects.

You’ll report directly to the President, working closely with the Director of Projects on engineering service delivery, and collaborating with the Director of Marketing on business development strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Project Managers to ensure timely, cost-effective engineering and design support.
  • Collaborate with the Structural Engineering Technical Manager to assist in estimates and project scope development.
  • Approve contracts up to $20,000, seeking further approval from the Director of Projects or President for contracts exceeding that amount.
  • Oversee engineering and design teams, ensuring corporate procedures are followed in the delivery of services.
  • Mentor staff and recommend external training opportunities to support their professional development.
  • Manage team utilization and staffing, working with the Director of Projects, Director of Marketing, and President to forecast needs based on project backlogs and the corporate strategic plan.
  • Coordinate staff schedules with Project Managers, ensuring the right team members are available to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, and timely performance reviews.
  • Adhere to and promote company-wide policies and procedures, contributing to both the strategic and marketing plans.
  • Keep the Director of Projects informed about any issues that might impact project timelines, staffing, or financial outcomes.
  • Participate in regular management meetings.
  • Strive to meet or exceed quality assurance standards, supporting the Structural Engineering Technical Manager.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.

Essential Qualifications for Success

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE license).
  • 10+ years of experience in the field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in project management or a related role.
  • Strong organizational skills.
