Base Location: Spain or Italy.
Italy, Roma is preferred location. Other locations in Italy will be considered depending on the candidate’s expertise.

The position
You will join a Renewables business that will lead activities across several Southern European countries (Spain, France, Italy and Greece, but open to others in the future) with our major Hub in Spain. The working environment will be international, diverse, inclusive and in growth mode.
The main objectives are to develop, build and own renewable energy plants – mainly Wind Technology but also Solar, Storage and Hydro across Europe to achieve our Net Zero commitments.
Reporting to the Head of Construction of Southern Europe, as a Project Manager you will be responsible to build, develop and lead the project team in the projects located in Italy and Spain.
You will take the lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, Cost controlling, and handing over to Operations out a Portfolio of Onshore Renewable Construction Projects throughout Europe ensuring that all projects are delivered safely, in a timely and cost-effective manner and to a high standard in line with our client framework.
Main responsibilities
During preparatory phase for construction
- You support procurement activities in relation to the construction contract(s). CAPEX estimations, program preparation and site visits.
- You support Development and Engineering for the various studies for Balance of Plant (geotechnical studies, detailed layout, cabling, etc.) in order to deliver the detailed design of the project.
- You support Engineering in drafting the technical specifications based on the validated detailed design.
- Drive the development of construction strategy, preparation, tendering and award of construction packages and coordinate and steer the activities in the field to ensure safe installation in time and budget according to technical specification.
- To ensure that prior to issue all Construction contracts are robust and that scope of works, risk, quality, cost and programme requirements are clearly defined and understood and align with the project Business Case and that the project teams effectively manage the contracts during construction.
- You will support with definition of the specifications and the management of the tender phase in cooperation with the Procurement department for the following contracts:
- HSE Coordinator according to the country legal requirements
- Environmental/archaeological monitoring according to the country legal requirements
- Owner’s Engineer service according to the company’s specifications
- Any other contract necessary to fulfil the country’s legal obligation during construction.
- You actively participate to the contract negotiations of the selected subcontractors and suppliers.
During Construction Phase
- Lead a team of project professionals, with responsibility for performance management, training, and ongoing development of team members.
- Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day management of the construction project monitor and coordinate work performed by different departments being aligned with Construction Site Manager.
- Responsibility and support the Construction Site Manager for the safe and efficient on-site execution of projects on schedule, within budget, and to defined quality standards. Effectively manage Project Delivery Risks Opportunities in line with the client Governance framework.
- Lead Communication, Relations and Negotiations with contractor during Construction Phase
- Manage all project resources, processes, systems, and controls and accurately and timeously report on projects.
- Responsible for the proper execution of different contracts for the project assigned to you in respect of the safety, budget, time and quality.
- Manage contractors and internal project teams delivering PV, batteries and wind projects.
- Drive and contribute to the continuous improvement of the organization (e.g. reduce lifetime costs, increase internal efficiency, Exchange of Best Practices)
- Maintain an effective communication with all construction projects, senior management, consenting, engineering ,finance, legal, procurement, etc to ensure that there is consistency in the way we deliver projects across the portfolio and that senior management have sufficient visibility of the portfolio to maintain confidence in project delivery and resolution of issues. Build excellent relationships with key external stakeholders including statutory consultees and key local community leaders.
- Lead Internal Project Reviews, Engineering Reviews, Planning and Coordination Meetings and Handover Meetings.
- Lead Contract Management with different suppliers.
- Maintain an effective communication with all construction projects, senior management, consenting, engineering ,finance, legal, procurement, etc to ensure that there is consistency in the way we deliver projects across the portfolio and the Head of construction have sufficient visibility of the projects managed to maintain confidence in project delivery and resolution of issues. Build excellent relationships with key external stakeholders including statutory consultees and key local community leaders.
- The ability to adhere to, understand and advocate the highest standards of Health and Safety legislation and practices and to lead the Safety Culture during construction
- Monitoring and reporting to Senior Management Team (Head of Construction) the projects progress, risks, opportunities, issues, lesson learned, key decisions, and financial performance on a monthly basis and be able to take
- Close out of all project items including Final Account, O M Manuals, Punch List, Safety File, QA File, Material and Plant re-locations, Project Plan – all with the Support of your Project team.
- Lead Handover process to OM Department.
Qualifications and Requirements
Business Knowledge
- Significant knowledge of Construction Renewable Energy Projects.
- Significant knowledge of Project Management processes and practices, including business case, cost, quality, programme, and Risk
- Significant knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practices.
- Significant knowledge of commercial drivers for major infrastructure projects, including the Business Case for the project.
- Significant knowledge of Quality legislation and practices.
- Significant Knowledge contracts management and the use of contract forms such as NEC/FIDIC.
- Significant knowledge of Project Governance systems and procedures
- Good knowledge of construction Planning and Cost management
- Significant knowledge of electrical protocols with ENEDIS/REE for operational licencing of the Plants
Essential Functional / Technical Skills
- Graduated in engineering – Ideally - Civil/Electrical – other degrees such as Industrial Mining Telecoms are adequate .
- Minimum 5 years of experience in site management and project management in construction, ideally in the Wind and PV sector.
- Experience in EPC construction and commissioning large Renewable Energy Projects, with a proven track record in Wind and/or Solar PV.
- You demonstrate natural leadership.
- Rigorous with excellent organizational skills, you know how to manage risks and priorities.
- Demonstrates significant project management expertise and understanding of major projects delivery e.g. project definition and set up, planning, cost, risk, quality, and commercial management.
- Demonstrates significant understanding and experience of consolidated planning for capital projects.
- Ability to lead project teams and key stakeholders to ensure robust project performance.
- Ability to communicate at all levels in the organisation and to key stakeholders out with the organisation.
- Highly valuable, Membership of/or working towards membership of a recognised Project Management body.
Language Skills
- Fluent Italian level is required.
- Highly valuable English language or other European language.
Other Important Aspects
- Willing to travel regularly (50% of the time) to Projects Construction Sites (Italy - Spain).
- Candidates shall be able to provide a detailed description of the projects in which they have participated in.
