PGI's Senior IT Engineer will be an integral part of our team, ensuring that our technical infrastructure is stable, secure, and efficient. This role involves hands-on technical support, proactive maintenance, project work, and the continuous improvement of our IT systems.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide technical support for server, network, storage, security, and endpoint technologies, resolving escalated issues.
- Identify and resolve root causes, spot trends, and escalate issues to the Head of IT as necessary.
- Experience working within a formal Change Management process.
- Review and enhance existing configurations to improve security, functionality, reliability, and reduce costs, and ensuring documentation is accurate and kept up to date.
- Log support tickets with hardware and software suppliers, ensuring acceptable resolutions, and working with end users on escalated IT support tickets.
- Automation of tasks via PowerShell scripts and other methods
- Help maintain ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus certifications and keep PGI's Microsoft Secure Score above average.
- Manage SCEM OS Deployment, including software packaging via SCEM (SCCM).
- Produce regular management reports summarising infrastructure issues and improvements.
- Perform security baseline and performance monitoring of infrastructure and endpoints, addressing or escalating issues swiftly based on their severity.
- Evaluate new technologies and discuss their benefits with the team.
- Be able to travel to our Bristol BS32 office and Newport Datacentre within 30 mins, and to London EC1V office as necessary. Travel to any of these occasionally at short notice.
On day one you will bring
- Solid experience with Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune, Active Directory, Entra ID, IP networking, firewalls, and general IT infrastructure.
- Solid PowerShell scripting, group policy, and other Microsoft on-prem technologies
- Able to participate with team members in robust technical discussions to decide on a course of action/product/approach/etc.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with users at all levels, collaborate in a team setting, and also work independently.
- Rational, logical, and scientific approach to problem-solving, backed by your experience.
- Ability to understand and work with security features and technologies, not against them.
- Proven ability to multi-task, prioritise under pressure, and stay updated with the latest technologies and best practices.
