Summary:
The Operations Technician is responsible on a day-to-day basis for operating the Treatment Processes associated with the WTP (Water Treatment Plant, Cooling Water treatment and the SNCR – Reverse Osmosis plants. As well as daily operational routines the Operations Technician will be expected to implement front line Planned Maintenance tasks as part of their role.
The key objectives of the role are
• Operate the water/Effluent treatment plants and associated equipment to ensure that water quality and quantity produced is within the specifications required by the customer.
• Carry out front line maintenance as required.
• Carry out duties in a safe manner to ensure that there is a minimum risk of harm to people or the environment as a result of plant operations.
• Monitor the performance of the assets and carry out actions to ensure that the assets perform at an optimum level at all times.
• Communicate with other members of the NSI and Customer teams to ensure that there is a good level of understanding regarding plant performance, activities to be carried out and any impacts on site wide operations as a result of work within NSI scope.
• Carry out isolations and deisolation’s etc., as required to allow others to carry out work on the assets.
• Safe delivery of bulk chemicals to storage tanks.
• Raise work orders for plant maintenance.
Job Description:
- Ensure that you work and operate the plant in a safe manner and highlight any safety related concerns.
- Comply with NSI and customer HSE policies and systems.
- Ensure no harm to the environment.
- Efficient use of chemicals for the WTP process.
- Monitor Plant performance to ensure correct operation.
- Monitor performance of individual process units to assess when operational maintenance is required.
- Check inventory of operational consumables (e.g. chemicals, filters etc.) and request reorder as required.
- Prepare Risk Assessments and Method Statements for non-routine work on the company’s HSE management system.
- Develop strong relationships with clients operational staff.
- Advise customer/Team Leader of changes in plant status that could impact on operations.
- Attend shift handover and commit to effective handover process.
- Look for better ways of doing things, take up the innovation challenge.
- Monitor plant performance and react to any changes that may affect compliance with KPIs and specifications.
- Ensure adequate supply of consumables and chemicals at all times.
- Ensure plant availability is maximised.
- Carry out operational maintenance.
- Receive deliveries.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues with proven ability to work effectively within a team.
- Share knowledge / experience with colleagues and others.
- Effectively communicate with other third party contractors.
Required Skills/Qualifications (Essential):
- Training in Environmental Health and Safety
- Committed team player
- Attention to detail with a positive attitude to work
- Basic computer literacy
- A strong commitment to upholding safe working practices
Required Skills/Qualifications (Desirable):
- Knowledge of Water Treatment Plants, Ion Exchange process or any other production/process related plants Operations
- To be able to demonstrate through previous work experience, the capacity to interpret technical information from drawing, PIDs, data sheets etc
- Demonstrate the ability to work within a quality system
- NVQ in relevant discipline
- Basic training in EMI repairs and maintenance
- Ability and knowledge to complete basic repairs and maintenance
Working for us means:
- The salary is between £24,000 £30,000 per year, depending on your professional experience
- Hours of Work – 39.6 hours per week in accordance with shift rota
- Bonus up to 5%
- 10% Shift Allowance
- Overtime – 1.5
- Holidays are built into the shift pattern
- Probationary Period – 6 months
- Pension – Can join immediately or auto enrolled after 3 months - Employee 4.5% and Employer 4.5% via salary sacrifice
- Eligible to join Private Healthcare after successfully completing probation.
- Enrolled in Group Income Protection and Death in Service (4 x basic salary) upon commencement of employment
- Notice – 1 week during probation, increasing to 1 month thereafter
