Job description for Machinist at Sound Propeller Services
Set up and operate machines to fabricate metallic product (mainly shafting and propellers) by performing the following duties
Select, align and secure holding fixture, cutting tools, attachments accessories, and materials on machines such as lathes, key-seaters, and grinders
Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut
Start and continuously observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls as required
Verify conformance of finished product to specifications
Operate welding/cutting equipment as needed
Confer with supervisor or others to resolve machining problems
Complete any other tasks as assigned
Essential functions of this job
Ability to perform basic math and measurement functions
Ability to lift 75 pounds
Ability to legibly and properly fill out paperwork (time card, inspection reports, etc)
Ability to understand and follow all state and company safety rules
Ability to use PPE (respirator, safety glasses, etc) as required
Ability to operate the following equipment
· Boring machine
· Lathe
· Key seater
· Drill press
· Milling machine
· Bench grinder
· Hand drill
· Extension grinder
· Overhead crane
· Welding equipment (sub-arc weld lathe)
· Measuring devices (calipers, gauges, etc)
· Forklift (must be certified)
· Basic hand tools (hammer, wrench, etc)
· Basic cleaning tools (broom, rags, etc)
On rare occasions a Machinist may be sent to perform work off-site at a dry dock.
Supervises No One
Starting pay $24- $28 hr. driven by experience
