Posterity Group, LLC is seeking professional and experienced Licensed Occupational Therapists (Acute Care/Out Patient walk-ins) with a helpful attitude to join a multidisciplinary team at the VA St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS).

**This position is for Monday - Saturday (to include holidays falling within the work week) (

Hours: 8hrs per week

Duty Hours:

  • 7:30am-4:00pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, 8:30am-5:00pm

Role and Responsibilities of a Licensed Occupational Therapist:

The contracted employee will conduct occupational therapy assessments/evaluations, develop and implement therapeutic treatment plans to patients with diseases/illnesses/injuries that are acute, critical, or chronic in nature in conjunction with a combination of severe physical and/or mental disabilities. The OT should be able to perform the following evaluations to include, but not limited to, the following: standardized neurological occupational therapy evaluation, General Therapy Screenings, Activity of Daily Living evaluation, Instrumental Activity of Daily Living evaluation and adaptive equipment evaluation and assessment. The OT will formally and informally assess the patients’ physical, functional, psychosocial and emotional needs and use that information to develop a comprehensive and dynamic treatment plan which will enable each patient to achieve optimal levels of function in self-care, activities of daily living, work, and leisure.

  • The services to be performed by the Contractor shall be under the general direction of the Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Supervisors or his/her designee. The COR shall be responsible for monitoring contract compliance and for verifying that services called for under the contract attested to by the Contractor have been received.
  • To accomplish those objectives, the employee will need to review paper and electronic records, note salient information, precautions and contraindications. The OT will confer with significant others and interdisciplinary team members. To derive accurate information, the incumbent will need a good grasp of commonly used methods, procedures and evidence-based tests.
  • The employee will be required to develop time-limited functionally based short and long-term goals. The OT will then provide or oversee the direct patient care, selecting the most appropriate techniques to reach the established goals.
  • The OT shall provide clear verbal and electronic communication of patient progress through thorough documentation of baseline measurements and ongoing assessment data. The OT shall begin discharge planning at the time of admission and provide necessary home education programs and aftercare.
  • Occupational Therapist Assessment: The contractor’s employee shall complete all assessments accurately 100% of the time.
    • Assessment for the presence of physical/mental/cognitive deficits.
    • Determination of function-related problems including rationale or basis for making the assessment.
    • Development of individual occupational therapy treatment plans.
    • Use of data to implement an individualized treatment program.
    • Choice of therapy technique best suited to the condition of the patient to achieve maximum results.
    • Assessment of adaptive equipment needs, such as manual wheelchairs, splints, braces, and Durable Medical Equipment (DME).
    • Assessment of therapeutic activities and adaptations needed for the patient’s success.

Occupational Therapist Treatment:

  • Therapeutic exercises.
  • Neuromuscular re-education.
  • Cognitive Therapy
  • Functional activity training.
  • Prevention/ Treatment of UE pain
  • Adaptive equipment evaluations and prescriptions.
  • Wound/lymphedema
  • Fabrication of splint

Occupational Therapist shall:

  • Assess the patient prior to the development of treatment plans and goals.
  • Provides therapeutic treatment plans in accordance with the initial evaluation findings for treatment aimed at prevention, reducing disability or pain, and restoring lost function.
  • Provides therapeutic interventions, which focus on function including a range of motion strength, coordination, activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL).
  • Monitors the extent to which services have met the therapeutic goals relative to the initial and all subsequent examination.
  • Determines the degree to which improvement occurs and, when appropriate, revises the overall treatment plan.
  • Educates/counsel’s patients, families, and/or significant others regarding the disability incurred and about interventions to reduce the existing deficits and improved management of any residual deficits in the resumption of life roles in the home and community environment.

Occupational Therapist Special Requirements:

  • Respects confidentiality and follows established policy regarding patient records.
  • Re-evaluates and upgrades treatment plan at intervals determined by the Occupational Therapy Department policy.
  • Documents in the electronic medical record an initial, progress, and final evaluation that includes measurable goals, goals achieved and functional outcomes using the OT department documentation policy guidelines. Documents patient education according to VA policy.
  • Observes VA policies and procedures relating to infection control, Fire and Safety, Information Security, Patient Safety (mandatory training).
  • Maintains current CPR Certification.
  • Communicates consults and works cooperatively with other team members to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Assists in the day-to-day operation of the department in routine housekeeping and equipment care.
  • Consults with patients and their families regarding educating, training and advising them about their deficit/disability/disease. Teaches/issues home programs to improve/maintain achieved goals.
  • Document care provided for each patient in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Use computerized data and record systems
Requirements

 

Occupational Therapists shall maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted license as a therapist in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S. or the District of Columbia.

  • Occupational Therapists shall be certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • All Occupational Therapists shall be Basic Life Support (BLS) certified. BLS certification shall be in accordance with the American Heart Association and Military Training Network requirements in accordance with VHA Directive 1177.
  • Occupational Therapist education and degrees shall be recognized by the U.S Department of Education, from ACOTE accredited colleges, universities or institutions.
  • A minimum of two years of hospital experience or two years of ambulatory care experience
