Perthyn was established in 1995 operating on a ‘not-for-profit’ basis. We started providing services under the ‘All Wales Strategy’, in support of the closure of the long stay hospitals in Wales. We built a strong reputation for providing quality person centred support with an additional specialism in supporting people with behaviours that challenge. The next few years saw us developing services in a number of Welsh local authority areas, as well as in 2003 into Shropshire in England. In 2009, we became part of the project to close hospital provision for people with a learning disability, and support their move into their own homes, across the East Midlands.

We are registered with both the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and work with a number of local authorities and health commissioners to provide personal and individualised support. We mainly support people through the Supported Living Model, and also provide bespoke community day opportunities and specialised services for people with complex needs.

Perthyn focuses on supporting people to achieve outcomes important for wellbeing and life enrichment, empowering people to minimise the effect of their disability through positive risk taking to live an active and fulfilled life. Our values mirror those on which the Social Care and Wellbeing Act was built. We recognise that all 8 National Wellbeing Outcomes are essential for living a good quality of life, but that some are harder for people with complex physical and emotional needs to achieve without intensive, well planned support, which is where Perthyn’s experience lies.
