EES Industry Navigator

The Industry Navigator for NMC Extended Education & Training and Northwestern Michigan Works! will strategically engage with the NoMI Attainment Collaborative and other local industries and employers to identify and address workforce training needs with regards to credential and degree attainment. Serving as a vital business liaison, this position will facilitate awareness of programs, access to funding sources, and help create training programs tailored to business requirements, ensuring access to an industry recognized credential or degree for all employees. This position will work closely with and under the direction of the NMC Extended Education & Training Work & Career Program Coordinator, as well as with Northwest Michigan Works! The position will conduct surveys and utilize current data to determine needs of employers and employees for credential or degree attainment. Additionally this position will promote apprenticeship opportunities and advise on leveraging in-district tuition rates for county businesses, maximizing underutilized resources. By fostering partnerships and providing actionable insights into employees’ potential to earn credentials or degrees, this position will enhance workforce development initiatives, ensure that businesses thrive through skilled workforce cultivation in northwest Michigan, and contribute to increasing the ten county region’s credential and degree attainment rate by 11%.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES and LICENSES

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (Required)

Between 2 and 5 years of related experience (Required)

Experience programming or teaching adult/youth events/classes (Required)

Minimum of 2 years of professional experience with written communication (Required)

Two + years of professional experience collaborating with a team of colleagues (Required)

Experience using social media (Preferred)

Experience with marketing and promotion (Preferred)

Experience with vendors/contracts (Preferred)

  • (Critical) Works closely between NMC and Northwest Michigan Works! to develop strong relationships with local industry partners and employers. Has a pulse on what workforce training is needed by employers, and matches that to what is available through the NoMI Attainment Collaborative. 

  • (Critical) Engages the Directors of Extended Education and Northwest Michigan Works! in needs and trends for industry partners and local employers. Ensures that workforce and professional development events are available regionally, researches NoMI Attainment Collaborative offerings, determines resources and local needs, budget needs, and accrediting requirements for programs/events under consideration, and submits potential program/event/course ideas for review and approval.

  • (Critical) Assists the NMC Work & Career Coordinator in the planning, development/acquisition and implementation of new learning programs and events; designs appropriate educational formats (workshops, courses, conferences, and training); and recruits and schedules instructors or providers. 

  • (Critical) Supports the NMC Work & Career Coordinator in creating custom training activities that meet the needs of industry partners and local employers. Embeds these trainings with opportunities for students to receive credit for prior learning and credential or degree attainment opportunities. 

  • (Critical) Ensure learner needs are met by collecting feedback, analyzing data and making appropriate adjustments to existing offerings and by monitoring service/quality assurance for third party vendor services and contracts.

  • (Critical) Manages workflow with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and other professional software.

  • (Critical) Maintains relevance in the continuing education and ongoing certification arena for professions represented in the NoMI Attainment Collaborative’s academic areas, local businesses, and the greater community.

  • (Very Important) Provides content for marketing and communications efforts and collaborates with the NoMI Attainment Collaborative and the NMC Promotion & Marketing Coordinator to ensure success of programs and events.

  • (Very Important) Drives the creation, collaboration and implementation of programs and events that may include, certificate and badging credentialing, career, workforce & professional development, and additional NoMI Attainment Collaborative initiatives.
