Summary
This is a full-time teaching position in the Biology Department that includes instruction primarily in Anatomy and Physiology and Human Biology, but may also include assignments in one or more of the following courses: General Biology, Microbiology, Ecology, and/or Genetics. Instruction may be in the form of traditional, online, or hybrid formats, and includes the possibility of teaching night and weekend courses.
Qualifications
Required:
A minimum of a Master's Degree and 18 graduate credits in Biology
Teaching experience in biology
Preferred:
Master's degree in biology
PhD in biology
Graduate coursework in anatomy and physiology.
Two years of demonstrated experience in teaching general biology, human biology, and preferably anatomy and physiology.
Teaching experience in web-based and non-traditional courses
Experience with student advising
Experience with curriculum development
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS AND SKILLS
Minimum of 2 years full-time equivalent experience in teaching general biology and/or human biology courses required.
Minimum education of Master's degree in Biology or related field required.
Coursework consistent with a graduate degree in biology with emphasis on general biology and human biology required.
Demonstrated experience in teaching anatomy and physiology, microbiology and genetics courses preferred.
Coursework in anatomy and physiology, genetics, microbiology, and nutrition preferred.
Experience with web-based and non-traditional teaching methods preferred.
Some experience with and knowledge of DNA manipulation, genomics and proteomics preferred.

Essential Responsibilities
Provide classroom/lab instruction to students and develop theory including but not limited to online, accelerated, livestream, hybrid and face-to-face formats
Supervisory Responsibilities
May provide functional supervision for student employees in the labs.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This employee may supervise several student employees in the Biology Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Teaching Responsibilities
When teaching any classroom or lab courses, the instructor will meet the responsibilities of regular faculty in the areas of Curriculum, Teaching Effectiveness, Faculty Professional Development, Support of College, Community Initiatives, and Professional Qualities and Abilities.
Compiles, administers, and grades examinations and other learning activities
Uses current and emerging technologies in distance learning and in the classroom; conducts classroom research with classroom assessment techniques
Listens to students and coaches them to actively participate in the learning process
Uses a variety of assessments to promotes student demonstration of learning through exams, discussions, debates, presentations, simulations, and/or debriefings
Provides a course syllabus to the students that includes the College Syllabus information outlined in Moodle
Is accessible to students during formal office hours and other times as needed
Maintains and regularly updates Moodle gradebook and/or other electronic grading systems
Faculty Professional Development
Continually engages in learning and scholarship in the area of specialization
Support of College, Community Initiatives
Participates actively in the shared governance system
Participates in dental assistant and academic area meetings and other scheduled area activities including participating in writing and supporting accreditation standards
Meets requirements for faculty evaluation and academic advising
Serves on specific academic area and College wide committees
Supports the academic area and college through other work normally expected of faculty members
Is fully committed to the mission and values of Northwestern Michigan College
