Summary
This is a 30-hour-a-week, benefited position located on our main campus in Traverse City, Michigan.
The Nursing Coach will provide academic support to nursing students in achieving the End of Program Student Learning Outcomes for each of the nursing programs. The coach will provide support in all areas of basic nursing education, aiding in acquisition of skills in nursing practice. The Nursing Coach will work with faculty and students to provide curricular support allowing increased retention and completion for learners. This position will provide students with assistance in areas of technology, time management, organization, study skills, goal setting, executive functioning, and other non-cognitive areas with the goal of successful completion of the designated program of study and eventual continuation to BSN completion. In addition to a deep understanding of nursing education, the successful individual will have the ability to perform complex tasks, knowledge of basic academic skills and strategies, the ability to maintain detailed records, familiarity with online learning platforms, and a desire to help students overcome academic challenges. Candidates should have the patience to work with a wide variety of students with both a sense of humor and compassion.
Qualifications
Associate Degree in Nursing OR Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
Minimum of one year related work experience (Required)
Proven Experience using Microsoft Office software (e.g. Microsoft Word®, Excel®, Power Point®) (Required)
Proven Experience using Google Apps and video communication tools (i.e. Google Hangouts or Zoom) (Required)
Bachelor’s Science in Nursing (Preferred)
Experience in academic support (Preferred)
Experience working with low-income, first-generation and minority students (Preferred)
Essential Responsibilities
(Critical) Assists students with the development of skills supporting nursing academic success.
(Critical) Provides students with support in successful completion of nursing theory courses and attainment of clinical nursing skills.
(Critical) Aids with pharmacology including medication administration and pharmacology calculations.
(Critical) Develops and implements e-mentoring and social media strategies to maintain positive relationships and effective communication with students.
(Critical) Assists students in solving problems through discussion.
(Very Important) Provides referral to appropriate College staff, to a counselor, to an advisor or to an outside agency, as appropriate.
(Critical) Provides customer service by receiving calls and greeting students with a friendly welcome, information and direction.
(Critical) Maintains a clean, orderly environment for the students requiring assistance.
(Critical) Create, update and maintain files as delegated by Director of Nursing and Allied Health
(Critical) Respond to requests for information, exercising discretion in obtaining and providing factual and confidential information related to office and College operations.
(Critical) May be cross-trained to proctor nursing exams.
(Critical) Completes projects assigned by the Director of Nursing and Allied Health with input from the Nursing Faculty.
(Critical) Supports the admissions and nursing department by attending recruiting events, as needed.
(Critical) Ongoing training in coaching from the Student Success Center.
(Critical) Functions as a liaison between the Nursing Department and Student Success Center.
(Important) Office support functions- copy, scan, e-mail and file documents, use Microsoft and Google office programs, and answer multi-line telephones.
(Important) Perform data entry and run reports as needed.
