Summary

Provides service to library users at the service desk & beyond. This position coordinates and supports services for library operations, recruits, hires, trains and oversees student assistants, handles material check­out, returns, and provides assistance in locating the use of library resources.

Qualifications

Associate's degree (Required) 

Some coursework after high school (Required) 

Between 2-5 years of related experience (Required) 

2 years’ demonstrated library service experience with library related technologies (Required) 

2 years’ experience in customer service or public service (Required) 

2 years’ fiduciary experience, including experience with purchasing and budget reconciliation (Required) 

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills (Required)

Working knowledge of computer databases, Microsoft suit, cloud-based platforms, Google suite (Required)

Experience using databases (library catalogs) to locate information & resources (Preferred)

Knowledge of library resources and policies (inventory shifts with books and shelves) (Preferred)

Supervisory experience (Preferred)

Essential Responsibilities

  • (Critical) Manages Access Service Operations: (Circulation Desk, Copier, Printer functions).

  • (Critical) Ensures circulation policies and procedures are followed for the proper handling of customer and material records for an accurate library database.

  • (Critical) Reconciles issues for item holds information, overdue fines, verifies accuracy of Banner Hold system related to library materials, and contacts customers for followup based on circulation system reports.

  • (Critical) Provides training and assistance for customers and all new staff in the use and operation of library equipment and machines.

  • (Critical) Counts, balances, records and forwards to the Business Office monies received daily through the circulation functions (including copy machine, laser printer, and interlibrary loan charges).

  • (Critical) Coordinates Osterlin interlibrary loan program and reserved reading program (students, staff, faculty and community patrons).

  • (Critical) Conducts searches using Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) protocols for materials needed from other organizations (libraries), searches shelves for requests, retrieves items requested, and routes items appropriately.

  • (Critical) Provides troubleshooting expertise for library users on the library computer workstations, submitting trouble tickets, and assisting patrons with software questions.

  • (Critical) Supervises others in accordance with NMC's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees? planning, assigning, and directing work? appraising performance? rewarding, recognizing employees? addressing performance problems or gaps.

  • (Critical) Staffs the reference desk and assist patrons in completing research assignments by providing instruction and guidance in the use of the library catalog, accessing library subscription databases, and locating reliable information via the Internet.

  • (Critical) Maintains a section of the library’s collection.

  • (Critical) Participates in decisionmaking about the purchase of electronic resources, periodicals, and reference materials.

  • (Very Important) Maintains statistical data on interlibrary loan transactions for inclusion in publications for state organizations (State Library) and national organizations.

  • (Very Important) Assists with budget review, reconciles accounts and maintains files for library budget/expenditures, and reconciles library credit card with other LRT departments using library credit card.
