Liberty Commodities Corporation

Liberty Commodities Corporation is part of the Liberty group of companies involved in a wide range of enterprises including flour milling, food processing and marketing, animal feed production, agribusiness, chemicals, food service and real estate.

It was organized in June 1965 as “Wheat Products, Inc.” This came about because of the enactment of the Retail Trade Nationalization Law, prohibiting companies with foreign stockholdings from engaging in retail sales. Since Liberty Flour Mills (LFM) fell under this category, its Filipino shareholders decided to organize a marketing firm to distribute LFM’s wheat-based products consisting of bakery flour, cake mixes, snacks and pollard. The name was changed to Liberty Commodities Corporation (LCC) on its second year in anticipation of diversification into other lines of business.

A national sales network was organized to take charge of distribution to supermarkets, groceries and institutions such as bakeshops, bakeries, hotels, restaurants, fast food outlets, canteens, hospitals, etc.

Through the years, LCC has experienced rapid growth and expansion.

The Maya brand was launched with a line of premium mixes- hotcakes, brownies, cakes, cookies and the like which has become the benchmark of quality for this category. New lines and variants were continually added to the product mix.

The Maya Oven Toaster Mix line was developed and launched in the mid-nineties. This original concept entrenched the company’s footing as a trailblazer in the industry. It featured a new dimension of ease and convenience to baking, expanding the market base in the process.
