Director of Radiology

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Director of Radiology is responsible for the overall operation of the Radiology department. Plans and implements the overall diagnostic policies, procedures and services of the department including CT, x-ray, MRI, ultrasound, CT and mammography.

Complies with department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital requirements, Safety, and Infection Control, and all Federal and State of Colorado regulations related to the performance of Keefe Memorial Hospital operations and requirements of the compliance program.

SIGNIFICANT DUTIES

  • Evaluates patient care protocols; measuring outcomes; researching and evaluating emerging trends.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, and development of radiology staff members.
  • Studies trends and variances in the imaging industry and ensures financial resources are properly aligned.
  • Manages department budget and use of operational resources.
  • Ensures accreditation, legal and medical compliance and remains updated on regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Engages in continuing education and training opportunities whenever they become available.
  • Operates imaging equipment in compliance with manufacturerâs specifications, selecting proper technical factors based on the patientâs body habitus, pathology, age and physical limitations. Perform recommended quality control procedures.
  • Provides radiation protection for patients and fellow employees following the ALARA principal.
  • Demonstrates anatomy requested per examination adhering to department examination protocols and standards of care. Demonstrates competency in clinical function related to assessment, treatment, and care of patients. Prepares completed images for reading by interpreting physician. Demonstrate competency in using all software applications necessary in completing daily work.
  • Performs other departmental duties including, but not limited to; scheduling appointments, answering the phone, transporting patients, restocking and cleaning.
  • Participates in department call rotation as assigned.
  • Performs patient transfer in a safe manner.
  • Reviews patient history and interpret the information to evaluate the appropriateness of the exam ordered.
  • Performs venipuncture on patients receiving intravenous contrast media.
  • Adheres to facility policy on safe administration of contrast media, accessing patient lab values related to kidney function prior to indicated exam. Is knowledgeable in the use of intravenous contrast media and how to recognize adverse reactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrates effective relationships with hospital staff, patients, public, outside agencies, and providers.
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Exercises professional judgment, courtesy, and professionalism in daily interactions with others.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with health care team members and diverse patient populations.

Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
