Medical Assistant (Non-Cert) - 32 Hours

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Medical Assistant (Non-Certified) position is responsible for providing general care to patients at Keefe Memorial Hospitalâs Prairie View Clinic and/or Kit Carson Clinic in accordance with established practice standards. This position utilizes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in providing comprehensive and competent patient care. Provides effective interaction with patients, family members and staff, and coordinates interdepartmental patient care activities while maintaining standards within the scope of the Non-Certified Medical Assistant (MA). Complies with department and organization-wide policies, Rural Health Clinic requirements, Safety and Infection Control, and all Federal and State of Colorado regulations related to the performance of Keefe Memorial Hospital operations and requirements of the compliance program.

SIGNIFICANT DUTIES

  • Assists in performing admission assessment (including home med reconciliation process) for med-surgical, obstetrical, newborn, pediatric, and outpatients.
  • Performs patient/family teaching for assessed knowledge deficits within the MA scope.
  • Documents accurate and ongoing information of patient status that reflect patient responses.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, plan of care, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes as provided by designated provider.
  • Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, and appropriately reports condition changes to medical provider (as appropriate).
  • Demonstrates proficient technical/clinical skills and operational knowledge of equipment in the clinic.
  • Informs and involves manager regarding patient care issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques, and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
  • Participates in professional growth and development requirements and opportunities by attending department meetings, participation in required and voluntary educational programs and in-service meetings, including current literature, workshops, and other developmental opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
