In response to the humanitarian crisis at America’s ports of entry, Devereux will be providing short-term shelter care services for unaccompanied children who have come to the United States without a parent or legal guardian. Devereux will provide extremely high-quality, trauma-informed residential and educational services for unaccompanied children, with intense supports for their social and emotional health. We will also ensure they receive excellent and immediate physical healthcare including pediatric, dental and nutritional supports for every child.

Devereux’s ultimate goal is to ensure every unaccompanied child who receives our services is successfully and quickly discharged into the loving care of their family sponsor and, during the short time they are with us, have received best-in-class medical, therapeutic, recreational and educational services designed specifically to address the traumas they have sustained during, and often before, their migration journey. This is a very high benchmark to set, but we have already begun partnering with leading legal defense nonprofits to ensure children in our care have access to the finest immigration advocates and supports our country offers.

The Assistant Program Director supports the Program Director and serves as a secondary liaison with Short-term Shelter program. He/she is responsible for operation, assessment, planning, and evaluation of the children refugee’s residential, education, case management and clinical services, and for providing leadership needed to deliver quality programming and treatment. He/she will recognize problems in program delivery and respond proactively. The Assistant Director will help establish effective outcome measures to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of Short-term Shelter program/clinical services. He/she will supervise, develop and coach staff, as well as managers. Additionally this leader will help to interact with all regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology or other relevant behavioral science field

  • 5 years of progressive employment experience with social services or childcare agency or organization

  • 5 year experience as a supervisor in a residential facility

  • 3 years in supervisory/management experience in mental health setting (preferred)

  • Be bilingual in English/Spanish and minimum 21 years of age
