Dental Sterilization Technician

Current Dental Sterilization Technician (Clinical Assistant) opportunities include per diem, part-time, and full-time opportunities within our Pediatric and Adult departments across our Needham, Franklin, and Bedford, Massachusetts locations.

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of sterilization and clinical assisting duties to promote quality dental care for our patients consistent with the caring philosophy of Chestnut Dental.  All responsibilities are to be performed with accuracy, efficiency, and a team-oriented emphasis.  Follows universal precautions, including OSHA and HIPAA requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.  

Clinical Responsibilities include:

  • Set up sterilization lab at start and end of day 

  • Assist in the use and maintenance of equipment, specifically – autoclave, statim, ultrasonics, and model trimmer. 

  • Clear units of used instruments, properly prepare for sterilization process, sterilize instruments and prepare setups for next use.  

  • Perform biological testing weekly on all sterilizers. 

  • Take extra oral/intra oral x-rays as requested after completing training. 

  • Pour dental impressions, fabricate Essix retainers, maintain stock in lab and operatory. 

  • Prepare lab cases for transport and maintain appliance log and pull the next day inserts 

  • Help with turning over rooms and preparing the room for the next patient. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to withstand many hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting. Manual dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and adequate vision required in daily work.

What we ask of our Talented Sterilization/Clinical Assisting Team:

  • Current Dental Assisting License issued by the Board of Registration in Dentistry

  • Completion of required annual continuing dental education units  

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification  

  • Hepatitis Vaccination as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 

  • Radiology Certification Preferred
